Good things

Good thing I did not make a resolution about my blog this year because in my head I've written many more blog posts than in reality.

Good thing is my new little nephew in New Jersey who we got to visit last weekend, along with his mom and dad (my sister and brother-in-law). I learned that babies have to learn how to poop! Crazy!

Good thing is Catie Curtis and Edie Carey this weekend in Northampton. Cannot wait! Hope the snow comes on Friday as planned so travel on Saturday will be peachy.

Good thing is Kath's leftover chili in a crockpot that we used to make chili dogs last night. She had never had a chili dog until she met me. Also crazy!

Good thing I'm noticing that the mornings are brighter and the days are longer. I feel like spring is close at hand already. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Good thing we've kept up our gym membership even though we haven't used it once in the last YEAR! In my head, I'm healthier when I have one, because there's always the possibility of using it... right?!

Good thing is that I have completed my 2 books for this month! Woo-hoo! Maybe I can be an overachiever and read a 3rd to get ahead for next month when I'm on another overnight month and don't want to do anything except sleep and eat bad food.

Good thing I still have 11.5 months for Kath's scarf. :)

New year, new resolutions

Happy 2011!

This year, I'm keeping it simple. I have two resolutions.
1. Finish Katherine's scarf, which I've been knitting for 3 years.
2. Read two books per month.

Definite, achievable goals. Also, many, many plans for 2011. But more vague and unpredictable - plans to work towards but not so guaranteed to be achievable so I'm not making resolutions.

Oh wait.... I just asked Katherine to make another resolution to play her guitar more, because I love when she plays her guitar. She was playing quite frequently in Iowa for a while, and it was like having my own cute folk guitarist living with me. I guess in exchange I should adhere to her request to shave my legs more frequently so that my leg hair cannot be measured with a centimeter ruler. Add that to the list. 3 resolutions! Ah marriage. It's all about compromises.

At any rate, 2011 is looking up compared to 2010. Both of us made it into the New Year with both lower limbs intact, some hairier than others. Woo-hoo!

Success!

Here it is... my first attempt at nisu-making. A Christmas morning family tradition in my home growing up. However, as you can see, I had several servings shortly after baking. The joys of being grown-up!

From our home to yours

I hope that you and your loved ones, furry or otherwise, are feeling the love and warmth that permeates the season. Merry Christmas!
(FYI - this is an old picture of the kitties from our former home in Iowa... I particularly loved Ty's wide-eyed paranoid look. She's much more relaxed since the move.)

The best medicine

The doctor says, "For cold symptoms, take one dose of a cuddly, sleepy kitty. For continued symptoms, you may repeat this as often and as frequently as necessary. Side effects may include drowsiness, feelings of contentment, and a reluctance to move."

The perfect day

Today is both the 1st of the month and a Monday. For me, that's just about perfect. Well, the only way it could get more perfect would be if it would be January 1st on a Monday. Anyway, because today is a perfect day, I am motivated to start my healthy eating and working out again. (Why I think that I will do better when I start on the 1st of the month.... when it's a Monday... i do not know?) So, of course, because last night was my last night to be "bad", I called Kath and told her I would pick up take-out Asian food. I'm actually not sure what kind of Asian food we had... the restaurant is a mix of Chinese, Thai, and perhaps Vietnamese? The crab rangoons are outstanding, however. Now I'm dreaming of takeout Chinese food again. Arrgh.

Anyway, today is a perfect day. Plus, I started my new rotation. So, the goal is to eat healthier, work out more, and lose weight. My chip baby is still hanging on. And, I've been tired and dragging a lot lately.

So, healthy food here we come! Poor Katherine. She probably thought these days were over. Luckily, I'm no longer quite so fanatical about it all.
