I wish I could relive life sometimes.

Kath and I had a great day yesterday. We spent 8 hours at the Iowa Women's Music Festival at Upper City Park in Iowa City. I've been going to the festival every year since I moved to Iowa City. Kath has never thought it was "her scene". Plus, since it's always on Saturday, and Saturday means ND football, getting her to come has been unsuccessful until this year.
The festival has improved every year since I've been going, and this year was super. It was a gorgeous day - not too hot - the sun was streaming through the trees and there was a nice breeze. We just sat in our lawnchairs and listened to some great music, people-watched (a great place for that), and occasionally read or talked.
I hadn't heard the last two artists before, and they were especially terrific. I've been listening to Ferron's "Souvenir", which I found online, over and over and over and over since yesterday.
Yesterday was so perfect, though. I'm balking at the fact that it's Sunday night and no longer the weekend. I feel like a toddler having a tantrum. I want it to be yesterday.

It's all part of my plan.

Kath and I walked down to the coffee shop tonight. I was planning on studying there for my test on Friday but it was too hot, so I got an iced coffee and we left.
On our way home, we stopped at the grocery store and picked up some coffee beans, as I used up the last of ours yesterday. One of the interns has been bringing in this yummy-smelling coffee every day, so I wanted to buy those beans. (Her coffee was spilled all over the carpet in our workroom last week and I just about went crazy smelling that wonderful vanilla-coffee scent all day.)
I filled up the bag with the vanilla coffee beans, we paid, and left.
I mentioned to Kath that I thought I was tricky in filling the bag to the tippy-top with beans because I thought I would get some coffee for free. She thought it was amusing that I did not realize that coffee would be purchased by weight.
As she said, "Once in a while you say something that makes me think that I have more common sense than you at times."

Well, it is true. Sometimes I have lapses in my common sense.

And if admitting to these lapses boosts her ego, well, I'm happy to share.

Foreign policy experience is easy to come by, apparently.

When asked by Charles Gibson about her foreign policy experience, Sarah Palin cited her role as governor of Alaska and the state's proximity to Russia. When she was asked what insights into Russia she gained by living in Alaska, Governor Palin stated that "they're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

When living in the UP, we would get a radio station from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I think this must give me foreign policy experience. I was abreast of all of the daily goings-on in Thunder Bay for all of those years. Plus, as a native of the UP, with the tendency to add 'eh onto the end of every phrase, this practically makes me bilingual! Look at all of my foreign policy experience in dealing with Canada!

John McCain, why didn't you pick me? I mean, I'm not a governor, but I practically fulfill all of your other requirements:
1. Foreign policy experience - refer to my aforementioned Canadian credentials
2. I have shot a handgun.
3. I have watched deer being dressed. I know, I know... I didn't kill them or dress them myself, but I have eaten venison!
4. I'm a maverick reformer for change. (Please reference my tendency to write letters to the editor and advise my sister for whom to vote.)
5. I'm not a fan of pork. It's true. We rarely eat it in this house because it has a tendency to dry out if you cook it the slightest bit too long.

I'd have said "no" to your offer, though. You seem insincere in trying to restructure your message as one of "Change"? You've been in the Senate for how long? Your party has been in the White House for how long? You've voted with President Bush how often?

And then, I'd end up on ABC trying to defend my paltry "foreign policy credentials". Ouch.

I didn't get Tom Brady.

Rob did. Rob, who last year said he wanted to break Tom Brady's knees.
He couldn't actually say Tom Brady's name when he drafted him, though.
He had to have Levi draft Tom Brady for him.
Rob has a bad track record of having his first pick get injured early in the season.
While it might serve him right for choosing my guy, I wouldn't wish that on Tom Brady.
Then I'd have to live with Katherine living through an underwhelming Patriots' season.
That would be tough.
Especially if ND doesn't come through.
